Description

The spawning has finished now, and all the salmon have died. Myriad animals, from bears and wolves, to eagles, ravens, and smaller marine creatures, depend on this food source to sustain them through the winter. Their final gift though, is to their young. As the eggs develop under the gravel, the bodies add nutrients to the waters, feeding a complex web of creatures that will, in turn, feed the young salmon in the spring. Spawning creeks are also healthier in their riparian zones, and studies have shown that up to 70% of the nitrogen available to those plants, comes from the carcasses of the fish. Nature, in her intricacy, is beautiful. Thanks for looking, comments welcome.

Living, dying, and rebirth. And life goes on. Nice to pause and think on these things at times. Thanks.
