Description
this is grashopper joe. a creature of many. to be precise someone called john smith (his job: astronaut) came up with this stupid name. he crash-landed his spaceship on a godforsaken planet somewhere in the universe. he found no living beeing except those blood thirsty beasts. they are totally stupid, insect-like creatures.
made with lightwave. the creature itself is textured with procedurals only. lots of post (bloom, contrast, etc.) in photoshop.

fantastic lighting. even if here is post work! how long to render? You must of turned on all the bells and whistles for this render, no? Radiosity on?
Babumbol
Just 3-point-lighting setup - no radiosity. one big area light simulating the sun, one distant light without affecting specular from below (hinting the ambient light) and a last one from the left brightening up the creature itself only. rendering took about 30min for every layer cause of the area light and sasquatch light (gras). saved two different exposure times (one with normal settings and one for the bright bloom) and composited them in photoshop where some grain and gausschen blur came to work. good post is everything ;)

Excellent great lighting effect.

Could you be so kind as to give a brief explanation of the process of creating the bloom effect. I quite like it. This is really good. Nice work!
LCGuy
Beautiful work! Very nice modeling and textures, but I feel it's the lighting that really brings this into a class all its' own!
Babumbol
@3d_explorer just duplicated your original rendering, pump up the contrast, give it a good blur (depends on image size) and play with the layer-modis and opacity values. a little grain on the blurred layer should give it the last touch :)
