Description
The history of Holy Grail seems to start with a man called Joseph of Arimathea, who receives the vessel used by Christ during Last Supper. After Christ's death, he collects some blood into the cup.
After Resurrection. Joseph is accused of having stolen Jesus' body, so he is imprisoned in a dark tower, where Christ appeares in a limbo of light, giving him His Holy Cup. Joseph is set free in 70 AD by the Roman Emperor Vespasiano. Together with his sister and her husband Bron, he goes to Glastonbury with some disciples. They build a table, and it will be called the First Grail's Table. Around it, 12 persons can sit: the 13th seat is empty to remind everyone of Jesus's place.
Joseph founds the first Christian Church in Glastonbury, Somerset, dedicated to Mary, Christ's Mother. Grail is guarded here, and used during Sunday's Masses.
Joseph dies in 27 July 82, and Grail is committed to Bron. Miracolously, he is able to feed a lot of persons with only a fish put in Grail: for this reason, he is called the Rich Fisher. His disciples set in a place called Avalon, to wait for the third Grail's guardian (After Joseph and Bron). After Bron's death, Alain (or Anfortas) becomes Grail's guardian
In Munsalvesche, the Mountain of Salvation, an order of Grail's Knights is born. They meet at the Second Grail's Table, and take part to the banquet whose foods come from Grail. Anfortas King has the function of a priest, but he is wounded with a Lance. Suddenly the region of Grail's Castle becomes sterile: it is the Waste Land. No traces of Grail's Castle remain.
After some centuries, Merlin founds the Third Grail's Table, the famous Round Table, but the cup is not there. A group of knights meet at Camelot around it, and the day of Pentecost, Grail appears as flying over a lightening river in the large room, and everyone is given a lot of food. Suddenly the Grail disappears.
All the knights decide to start the quest of Holy Grail. Lancelot, Perceval, Galahad, Bors and Gawain face a lot of initiatic adventures, but only Galahad is able to reach it and watches in it, dying in a moment of trascendental glory. But where did he find it? The Grail should still be there!

Beautiful image and a very comprehensive summary of the Grail legend. Did you know that the name of the country Portugal comes from the belief that the Grail was guarded there. It comes from Portua Gral (Bring the Grail) which was a command of the Spanish King to the Knights Templar to find the Grail... Great work :)
