Description

I've been in the Maritime industry for 0ver 25 years and these days we no longer plot our course or fix our position by the sun and stars. We use GPS Satellite Navigation and plot our position and course with just a click of a button on electronic charts on a computer.

Astonishing. The surreal atmosphere and delicate lighting really adds to the image. Not to mention the detailed models. Great work.

A superb render here - How to get around...my little yellow GPS gets me from here to there in Puget Sound just fine - know what you mean and I appreciate these old tools as do you - obviously.

This reminds me of the old famous piece that our beloved-but-not-forgotten Dan Davis once did; very nice work, and lots of it, too!

Excellent modelling, texturing and realism. Love these kind of themes! Using a sextant is extreemly cool (and very difficult), so I'm quite gratefull for my dGPS when sailing =)

Thanks everyone! Itsrainin, I used just one spot for lighting and an HDRI image on a sphere for reflections. I used the default render settings. Nown05, I also live on Puget Sound. DeZ, Satellite Navigation and GPS have made things very easy for us mariners. Oh, and I do still practice with the sextant while at sea. Lizzy, I sent you the gold shader by e-mail the other day and from that shader you can tweak it to make brass and even chrome. I have a hard time even following tutorials much less writing one. Thanks again guys! I appreciate the nice comments.

Wow REAL ART!! This is fantastic I want to reach in and pick it up. Your model is exceptional and the render is a cross between a fine oil on canvas and a studio photo. Youre very gifted. Thanks for sharing.

Fantastic work! That Gold is incredible. One picky little thing... was the map a low res scan or did it just suffer from the jpeg compression? It only stood out, to me, because everything else is so perfect.
