It's a great start, but it still lacks depth. Try to move the Zippo-text much more into the actual body of the lighter so that only the top millimeters are visible. Also give the text some beveling to let it catch the highlights. The rim of the lid could also do with a small bevel, as would the rim of the body. To get some nice reflections you should add for example a Sky Object and give it a blurred texture, preferably a photograph of some interior. This will ensure that the metal is actually reflecting something (now it's only reflecting your monochrome environment). Keep it up!

Cartesius is "the man".. he knows of what he speaks, as his advice above is all right on the money. But, for a first try, this is most excellent and should be encouraging for you; don't stop!

Beautiful first effort! LCGuy is correct..cartesius is outstanding at this and we all try and follow his leads. He won't guide you wrong. Keep going...you have a wonderful beginning!
