tried to add a bit if blur in photoshop.. bryce render time went nuts when i tried to add DOF. took about 16 hours to render on a 3 GHz P4, lots of bullets and poly's, about 350 MB. Wood texture from Mayang.com and bullet from 3dcafe freebies. Comments and suggestions welcome, thanks for looking :)

Yeah, the blur messes with the reflections. Maybe try elevating the camera, and pointing more down on them. In postwork, may try an almost transparent gradient layer with blur on that layer?
