Description

A pair of Rapier-class Destroyers escorts (DE) that normally deploy from the "Hand of God". The "Hand of God" supercarriers carry eight Rapier Destroyer Escorts internally. Each DE carries (two) five-inch Guide Projectile batteries, (two) three-inch fixed batteries in the bow, (two) high speed Gatling batteries, (two toerpedo/missile tubes), and a Wraith-class fighter/bomber/recon ship (one of which can be seen leaving its hangar in the stern). Thx for looking!

smiles This looks like a really cozy little first command.

enjoying your development of these models. a preference/suggestion: the "5-inch" batteries look too much like ww2-era 5-inch guns. the same for the hand of god's 16-inchers - which look like washington/iowa-class batteries. perhaps updating them would add real "jazz" to your models? just a thought. still, a lot of fun seeing these.

It looks like a Landing-Platform for Helicopters. But Helicopters cant work in Space. I dont love the military touch. Why must be the Canons on this Spaceship, and when there must be Canons, they looks too like Tank-Canons. The other is ok, and looks good

I'll kill multiple comments in one reply. ;') 1. The idea was more retro on the cannons, going back to the naval history on Earth. While on the outside, they look like the smoothbore cannon like we use today, the Guided projectile battery has more similarity to firing a cruise missile out of a torpedo tube--although the projectiles are smaller in size. 2. Due to the size of the DE, space is at a premium, so the Wraith lands and takes off vertically--almost like open the hangar door and kick it out. When you are a safe distance away, then ignite the engine. 2a. I suppose I could just put the Gatling batteries on the ship as well, but the point of the "Hand of God" class carrier is it can function, if needed, as its own task force, therefore every ship assoicated with it gets beefed up (as much as space allows) for complimentary and overlapping roles.

They do tend to favor destroyers, but destroyers are usually themselves escorts for larger vessels (that's their main mission)..great model, just pick up the word 'escort' and put it in front of 'destroyer'..;) I don't see a problem with landing areas for shuttles, you might just put a bit of filigree around the edge to focus gravitic rays, or prevent spacers from drifting off..hey, it's your model..keep it going, looks promising.

Way cool ship! Love the large carrier with smaller carriers concept. The markings on the trapeziodal landing pad are particularly nice.

Remember, during most of WWII in the convoy system the DE was the primary defense against U-boats and other raiders because they just didn't have enough DD class vessels to go around. I though about adding the railings to the DE as well, just didn't do it (yet). ;')
