Description

This "page" tells a legend how the world was born, according Kalevala, the Finnish national epic. The text on the right is from the first chapter of Kalevala. I try to tell shortly the legend in English: Ilmatar (the Virgin of the Air and the Mother of Waters was wandering around alone. She descends to the waters. A pochard is trying to find a place for his nest. He makes the nest on the knees of Ilmatar, and lays his seven eggs there, six golden and one iron.. The pochard sits on eggs few days, and Ilmatar is getting a little angry because the nest and the eggs are heating her. She then moves her legs and the eggs roll into the sea. The eggs break and the world is formed from their pieces: the earth, the sky, the sun, the moon, the stars... Thanks for R'osity 2d Forum for the idea of the illustration and the idea of the techniques, too:-D This illustration I made for 2d Forum's January theme. I made this in Illustrator 8 and in PhotoShop 5.5 Thanks for viewing - all comments are most welcome!

This is wonderful, Titta! And thanks for the translation of the story. I love the way her hair and the water are one, and also the sparkles on the water with the stars of the sky. Nice work!

Beautiful image! Very professional looking. At first I thought it was a page out of a published book! The colors are so bright and happy and it all goes so perfect with the legend! :)
