::: Part 42 of a series of Warbird Panorama Photos ::: Taken at the Planes of Fame Museum at the Chino Airport, California. (1/3/04) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ --- For more warbird images, please visit http://www.warbirds.n3.net --- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Aircraft (Left to Right): Aichi D3A2 Val replica (modified BT-15 that was converted to a Val for the movie Tora!Tora!Tpra!) that is being put back to the Val status after the tail and mid fuselage were changed to look like Howard Hughes's Racer for the new movie 'The Aviator' with Leonardo Dicapprio. They have the tail back together, and will be painting it to grey again soon. Next we have a standard Cessna... then behind that a blue SNJ Texan. The Red Bi-Plane is a PT-17 Kadet Stearman as seen at the beggining and end of the Disney Pearl Harbor movie, also in Space Cowboys and Disney's 'The Kid' with Bruce Willis. It's appeared in many other films as well. Next we have a North American P-51D Mustang 'Wee Willy II' that's owned by world famous pilot Steve Hinton and is made from the wreckage of the P-51 Mustang 'Red Baron' Reno Racer plane he crashed many years ago. Finally, to the far right there is a P-38L Lightning. These hangers you see on the far left and right are original hangers from World War 2 (with some additions). The Chino Airport where the Planes of Fame Museum used to be Cal Aero Field in WW2, a major training base for pilots on the west coast and entire US. Everything from Texans, P-38s, B-17s, B-24s, B-25s, etc etc were flown here. After the war, the airport became a MASSIVE scrapping grounds for hundreds of aircraft! Even today they still find pieces of warbirds from WW2 buried in the dirt when working on the runways. The two hangers can be seen in Abbot and Costello's 'Keem 'Em Flying' and was the shooting location for the 12 'O Clock High TV series. This panorama was taken with a Minolta Dimage 7hi (5 Megapixel SLR) and is made up of 7 shots and stitched in the new Photoshop CS (8.0).
