Description
My first experiment with realism. The flame needs work and I think the lighter needs to look a little more worn. Created entirely in Povray, no postwork. Comments, criticism and advice welcome.

I used one of these for 20 years, the flame should be a bit longer. And I like the new look.

Very cool idea.... the flame could be a warmer hue...maybe, that's all I can think of at the moment. It it very close to perfect.

The flame should be longer, as said before, not to mention, maybe a little red to go with what you have. You might also add a smoother look to the flame. Other than those tiny details, this is pretty good, especial for a first try.

This is fantastic, I have tried doing realistic images with POV before and never got anywhere near this. How did you do the flame with POV?

Thanks to everybody for all the comments and advice. For the flame, I used a transparent cylinder with emitting media and 2 density patterns - 1 spherical to get the general shape and the other a gradient along the y axis to get the color. I agree that the flame needs to be longer, warmer and a little more crisp. If anybody is interested, I can email the source code for it.
