Description

Pardon my rude and crude language in the illustration (or the rude and crude simplicity involved.)

Anyhow considering that they have the technology to put micro-cams inside cellphones, I figured why not put it to good use?
It would work like this... Instead of a useless and annoying audible car alarm (which most people ignore anyway), any jarring or tampering of the vehicle sets off a series of digital cameras mounted in strategic locations on the vehicle. These cameras take a series of pictures and start uploading them to the security service via a cell phone connection. Also at this time, the security system may also call or page the vehicle's owner.

The neat things about this is:
1. It doesn't annoy the neighbors if a false alarm occurs.
2. This system provides full time vehicle surveillance.
3. This system can positively identify any culprits in any case of thievery or vandalism.

So you can see where this would be of use in situations where regular alarms and vehicle locators are useless. With photos, suspects without previous criminal records can be identified. This is not possible with fingerprinting. Also, if the design is any good - there will be a storage device included to record the images provided the cell phone link is not working. Likewise, a panic button to trigger the system by the driver is also included.

Also note: For the system to be effective the cameras used should be of sufficient resolution to make a positive identification of an individual and be sensitive to IR, so that an IR LED can illuminate each camera viewpoint during nighttime operation.

Quick! Patent this idea before somebody else does! :-)

Hot Idea, the patent is a good call too.

I had a similar idea. Mine was just a dashboard webcam to video the thief if the car was actually stolen, but I like this in case the idiot just wants to break into the ashtray for change. You should show this to your local AutoCrimes Task force. Judging from the vehicle I assume you live in England?

Nope, actually in the states... Regardless of where you are, there's always the chance of some worthless scumbag going after the things you've worked for. The lack of a steering wheel on the left is simply because I used an unfinished model for my example (no seats either if you didn't notice.) More of a render for an idea concept than for looks (kinda contradictory here at 'rosity.) But it gets the idea across.

What's weird is the "shitbag" looks just like me when I lock my keys in the car.

The big four probably don't want it, because they didn't think of it. The government doesn't want it, because it solves problems. I think it's a great idea! Need help filing out the patent app?

Always the immediate response to crime is a failure. This is intended. The police will not respond to license numbers of vehicles obtained in an assault. They want to do it. Whatever it is they do.

Great idea, would love to see the footage on one of those reality video shows,.... you know the ones. "here we see bob taking the car....and here we see the cops at bob's house showing him the footage of the theft on a laptop!" Good luck with this. (sorry if bob is offended) ?:>P

Was actually thinking of how to patent this... Seems good enough that it should be done. The problem is most places want $$$ to begin the process and then a decent cut of whatever results from that. Also this uses pre-existing technology (just modified a bit and applied in a different way.) So I'm uncertain as to how far one can go without stepping onto other people's "turf"... Also note that the photos would be accessable by the owner online via a site hosted by whatever security company that installs this thing. That way if there's a false alarm - those pics could be skipped (no need for false reports.) Or perhaps the vehicle owner could save them for later, just in case something amusing turns up.

I've thought about this before... When my car was broken into over the summer, you tend to spend a lot of time thinking about it when you lose a grand of audio gear...

i like.. i think it's kewl that shitbag drives a truck when he is probably single and can't afford $2/gal for wasted gasoline

From what I've seen, most burglars prefer trucks or vans. Makes it easy to throw the loot in the back. Then they pawn the stuff so they have money for $2 gas.
