Description

0.1mm and 0.7mm waterproof pigment ink pens on quality paper, 13cm x 23.4cm, 15th January 2004 (no postwork whatsoever, although I considered tinting it in Photoshop) Lunchtime doodle with my new fineliner pens, around 40-45 minutes. It began with rapid fine strokes with the 0.1mm pen, here I tried to block out as much conscious intent as possible, making it as spontaneous as I could. I tried to recognise when "predictable" courses of action arose so I could ignore them. You get used to doing this with practice... it's easier sometimes than others, but can often yield fascinating forms that you probably wouldn't arrive at otherwise. After this I switched to the thicker 0.7mm pen and consciously developed the forms. Finally, back to the 0.1mm pen for the cross-hatching: an old technique from the past was holding the pen at very shallow angles to the paper, which allows for finer fainter strokes than usual. It was always the hatching I enjoyed the most ;-) Many thanks for taking a look as always, and for your feedback :-)

This does look so very spontaneous, almost alive as I watch the lines seeking to become form.

Very interesting,Jim, and appealing. Makes me think I aught to dig out my own pens and doodle a bit. :) It looks alive and a bit femine too.

I won't say what I'm really thinking, only that Freud would have a field day with this one! You know how much I adore these 'doodles' and this one is definately up there with some of your very best. I'd love to see a Synapsed PS version :) Hugest hugs Thank you so much for sharing :D

Oh....yayyyyy! For some reason, this is a very good thing for me to see right now. A friend and I did sort of this same thing together today with very satisfying results. But it is soooooo much work for me to get my conscious to shut up and step aside. This is inspiring
