How bout some details on how you did this one? Looks amazingly real, and the ball's surface is great. I'd be interested to know what renderer you used, and if this is a composit, or if you also modeled the grass, etc. Either way, it's terrific work. The only thing missing (if one were to be real picky) is a few scuff marks and abrasions on the ball to show it has been used (kicked, bounced, etc.). More details on your meathod would be great! Awesome job.

ok, let's explain: the grass is modeled thanks to a tutorial found at www.suurland.com, take a look, he's great (hope i'm not commercially advertising). the image is rendered with brazil, some color grading in photoshop. I hate them too, but it's gonna be quite hard to get rid of that extra grass. in the end, thanks 4 comments and help, and... I said my next one will be a TENNIS ball :)

Great image, very realistic. I would add scuff marks as suggested and maybe a logo or a ball manufacturer on it as well. Fantastic job. Good luck with the tennis ball.

Oh tennis ball...whoops...sorry. Anyway, I'm familiar with that tutorial. I think, since you are using a scatter compound object, you should be able to select the faces you want to not have the grass on. What you do is select all of the faces you want grass to grow in, then setup the scatter compound. If that doesn't work, then just collapse the stack and grab the bad grass and delete them manually. Like I said..it is a very nice picture.

There's a few plugins that will give you grass like this, and also more control over their placement. Advanced Painter I think is one of them. Good pic. The ball looks a little too "new", but it's a very photoreal render.
