Description

Kiss Me Goodbye by Benjamin Evans The street appeared like every street in such places. There was nothing different about it. In the yards, children played, grass grew, and old couples watched from inside their homes complaining about the loss of youth. The houses were non-descript. They had neither style nor any particular character, but they were homes. These were places that had been lived in for at least a full generation, and families had come and gone and left their presence behind. The day was warm but not hot, and the air was comfortable to run and play in. The sounds of the children at play mingled with the lawn mowers and sprinklers which created a melody of life that was felt as it vibrated in the atmosphere. In one yard, there were no children at play, but the signs of their habitation was evident. There was a white picket fence that encircled the yard, and a straight stone path led wary wanderers directly to the door. The yard was filled with a shiny and shaggy green grass that had begun to be a bit overgrown, and it filled in the spaces between the scattered toys and tricycles nicely. The playthings appeared to be weathered, as though their time had been spent at rest more than at play, and a thin layer of dust covered some of them from the last rain
