It is well known that the warlike Trogs tamed elephants for military purposes, but it is less known that in peace time, they use them as a fire brigade... the cornac (elephant driver)on the left is choking the trunk before dipping it in the river so that, on next breathing, the elephant will fill the appendix... older elephants (like the one in background) know their work and do not need help... and they must hurry for we can see the heavy smoke of burning village already masking the sky.. Excellent ethnological illustration it is !!
