Description
It began long ago with paper and pencil, in a cheap apartment berthing a 1965 Rambler in the garage. Life was good. Bryce came into being, and life got more interesting. Delving into Bryce one learns quickly its limitations, and yearns for faster renders, better radiosity, finer controls. The quest for 3d perfection begins, first this add-on, then this plug-in, another new feature! The lure is a Temptress, a Siren of Titan beckoning to 'come hither'.
The Grail of Perfection demands the means to create it. As the computer bulges with new and improved programs, there is light at the end of the tunnel.
WARNING..Memory Failure! Crash!
The latest and greatest requires a $2,000 video card...2 gigs of memory.Raptor hard drive raid configured...The modest hobby needs Studio Max, needs technology! Quick..sell the Mercedes..i need Inferno, Lustre, and Smoke! Stay home from work and tweak these drivers! Forget the bills...I am rendering!
In the future, I see a cheap apartment, a 1965 Rambler, and a pen and paper awaiting me. Beneath the interface lies the lost art, tangled within the womb of vertices and nurbs beats the dying heart of a lost art.
(sniff....i need a drink)!

You're not alone! I know exactly what you mean. Undoubtedly your words and image will resonate with thousands of fellow render freaks out here in late-night Renderland. However, it's still cheaper than therapy. LOL :D

I've sometimes wondered about 3D rendering programs and my ex b/f warned me that they were complex. Wow, and to think that I always felt Photoshop was complicated! I might stick with it and Xara X :-) If your partner gets too tetchy you might want to pick up the pencil and paints again ... heeheehee

lolol...been there, done that, can most certainly empathize! :D

funny but true, but hey you can always shoplift a better computer copy the program and crack it, get rid of the fire place or buy (read shoplift) her a king-size television if that doesn't work you can always kill the wife. If you haven't found rest and peace by then to work , I would suggest that you take pen and paper and write a bye bye world note ;-) Just kidding, but I like your story

Computer Graphics is a drug. Very expensive, life-consuming nerve-wrecking and soul-twisting addiction. :)

Fantastic! Your screenshot has become art of the deepest kind by your words that have been added to it. At Renderosity we can all relate. Very well put. Love the tongue-in-cheek nature of this that is the thin-est veneer of humor to cover over the truth that we are going broke - but - but - we are having fun doing it. I spent years redirecting the flow of my wife's imagination so that now she is the one who will suggest we spend the evening rendering - woo hoo. So that - at least - is solved - the cost in time and money I have yet to figure out. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. If you get the apartment again with the rambler, I have a gas grill and a pack of hot dogs in the freezer. - blessings to you!

LOL at j-art's comment. Yeah, computer graphics I have found out from experience is a very demanding hobby that can take over one's life. I think I'll probably be in the same place before too long. Very cool image...

Oh so true......graphics is an addiction, and not to mention all the time reading and learning new programs...or "toys" as I like to call them. My wife is to the point she wishes computers didn't exist....lol.
