Description

"2052 - The discovery of the Monolith"

Wings3D used for the turbine to the left. The rest is modelled in Bryce. Photoshop used for the textures and the post production.

This images was inspired by "A space odyssey" by Arthur C Clarke (the monolith thing) and the comic Druuna from Heavy Metal magazine (the environment). The idea of adding the 2 figures I got from Rochrs "The Craft". Furthermore... ah what the heck.. I don't have to make account for where I got everything from :)

I'm not trying to be original with this image. Practically every sci-fi image you see has chains, tubes, dripping stuff etc in it. The purpose was to try out a different technique and do more post work than I usually do. If you check the rest of my gallery then you'll se that I usually just focus on one object and that I'm an addict to simulated ambient light.

Anyway, I hope you like it anyway.

Follow this link if you're interested in how this image was set up and how the work process looked like. You can also download the main model from here: http://www.colacola.se/show.asp?pic=22

It definitely builds on the kinds of images of machinery that illustrators and photographers did in the 1920's. There is a sense of no rescue in the intellect as detail and complexity overwhelm a unknown view point. Fortunately it is a nonhazzardous stance and no immediate fight or flight is required.

Killer image. Perfect technique and render. Excellent textures. The lighting and the modeling are just as they should be. The primary objects of the image is focused while you have the sections out of focus that isn't your prime subject. PERFECT!

Beautiful. Love this kind of work. It shows what somebody who is skilled can do with Bryce. Love the post work of textures. I'm giving this one a vote.

I love this image, only the monloith itself is so hidden, and unfocused, that it seems unnecessary... The lighting is awesome!

I think it's great. Don't talk yourself down or try to justify it. The image alone is justification enough. Very nice and gives Rochr a run for his money. Gonna vote for this one.
