Description

Here is a B&W version of the first picture I posted here almost one year ago. This is the shot that got me addicted to photography. It also helped that I received so many encouraging comments under this image. The original posting was postworked with SuperBladePro to give it the eerie blue hue. This repost is slightly cropped on the left side. I think this improves it. I always worry about saturating my gallery with too many postings of the same subject, (as well as the fact that this tree will flatter any photographer) but now that I have posted well over a hundred shots here I feel confident that adding another won't put me in jeopardy of being redundant (or simply a hack). I finally found out what the Tree's official name is. :) Apparently it is one of the most Photographed trees in Canada. It's a good thing it's located in a fairly isolated area. I will once again give a little history here for those who haven't seen this before. This is a rare Limber Pine that died about 25 years ago. (rumour has it someone tried to fertilize it) It is estimated to be about 800 years old. In 1998 the tree finally fell over. It was erected by the townsfolk. -Frank Slide- In the background looms Turtle Mountain. In the middle of the night 101 years ago, this mountain collapsed and buried a whole town. Over 70 people were buried under the countless massive boulders. It is quite the amazing site that I hope to do justice with my Canon in the near future.
