Description

This is my artwork for the front cover of Cupola one of two new albums by Endgame (the experimental improvising trio of which I'm a member) featuring material we recorded in 2000. As the Italian name suggests, this particular album is a dedication to the unique music of Bruce Gilbert and Graham Lewis, ex-members of the British new wave band Wire who recorded several bizarre albums together under the project name Dome in the early 80s. For one EP they recorded under the translated name Kupol. Dome's releases contained artwork, often by Russell Mills, that was as abstract, geometric and open to interpretation as the music. The Endgame tracks we selected for this album were chosen for their similar atmosphere to Dome music, and so I wanted my own artwork to pay homage to theirs in some way too. For this front cover I used a low-resolution but perfectly symmetrical photograph of Firenze's own Cupola I found on the net, taken inside at its very centre, looking up to the apex of the dome. The graphic design for the entire CD booklet was influenced by their LP inlays. I used this yellowish-green hue throughout, as this is the colour I associate with the "colour" of the music on our album. Tomorrow I'll post the equally abstract image used for the inside-front cover. I actually did this back in June, but we've only just mixed and released the album, so I wanted to wait ;-) Photoshop 7. This surely makes a fantastic CD cover!! I had a look at ur link but couldn't find a link to listen to ur music! I'm sure I've seen that somewhere though! Is it in ur website?? Mwah!
