The handle then contains thread that screws unto the rod, and by doing so keeps the whole blade together.
If the blade then gets damaged only the damaged section needs to be replaced and the warrior can carry spare sections with him unto the battlefield.
The "teeth" of the blade are offset and jagged, like those of a shark.
This sword is designed to do a lot of damage going into a victim, but even more when twisted and pulled out. I am sure it can also be used in a saw-like fashion to remove a limb.
Mesh made in Anim8tor and rendered in Vue

Eine erschreckend Waffe . . . ! Die Form ist elegant . . . !

Looks cool! Wouldn't it get stuck inside the intended victim? All those edges... :-)

The main drawback with this kind of sophisticated swords is the difficulty in keeping them clean ... They ain't bad to impress the ennemy but after a few kills, the blade gets heavy with congealing blood and stucked tuffs of hair (especially when dealing with furry trolls..) and you can't wipe it clean.. you need running water ... So , for standard butchering work, a regular 'Avenger' or even the plain 'Pacifier' will do a quicker cleaner job!... Being no specialist, I only report what I've heard...;) what I can say anyway is that it is a really nice piece of 3D modeling !
