Description

This is one of the little local creeks that about 600 pink salmon spawned in last fall. The dead bodies of the parents have enriched the waters, and in the spring, when somewhere around a million eggs hatch, there will be lots of food for the one inch long fry. After a short period in the creek, they will enter the nearby salt water, and disappear for two years, returning with luck to spawn, die, and perpetuate the cycle. It's a sad comment on human values that in so many places a renewablo resource that only requires respect for its natal streams is in so much trouble.

Lovely image, like the story that goes with it. About 60 miles north of whewe I am there is a salmon ladder where you can go and see the salmon make their journy.

My brother is a game-keeper in Scotland and I understand your comments so well Jim. I've seen the salmon leaping the falls, such a struggle after crossing the ocean...makes humans seem a little fragile in comparison. Your words add gravity to the image.

Yep, your so right Jim...when will we learn? A great shot...I'd love to see this scene with snow, hope you can return if you get some.

Very touching commentary. The cycle of life will go on! I agree with Masema, I hope you return there for a pic after it has snowed! :)

Gravity...what an appropriate word. Your great words do add gravity to the shot:). The only gravity humans normally use, is that which brings everything down to their level:(

Now Im starting to feel guilty +_+ So fresh this is, and the position of the branches against the river looks good.
