Description
Cynric, grizzled veteran of the British tribes, stands his vigil for he knows one day the acursed Legions will return.
(Historical note: I've tried to make this character as accurate as possible portraying an old British tribesman from around the time of the first Roman invasion of Britain, the sword however whiles being correct in style is far too big as the Britons did not use large 2-handed swords, favouring single handed ones, this is more Celtic fantasy, going for a Conanesque type feel.)

Torq, weapons, shield, hero-belt and terrain modeled and textured by myself.
Body and cloth textures by me.
Background rendered with Terragen.
Face texture is 'Old' for Mike2 (lightened a little) free from 3Dream.

You know, I was about to post that the sword was proper style for a migration era blade, but they were one handed when I read your comments. Some did have fullers (even more important for weight reduction on a sword this long). I really like the shield and the woad painting. Well done!

This looks superb! Given your background and experience with this subject matter, I am really not surprised on the accuracy and detail in this render.
Aside from the unusual length of the blade, it doesn't render as sharp as it should. Perhaps some nicks and dents in the blade? The facial texture fits perfectly... although the tattoos are terrific this warrior should have a fair amount of scars, wrinkles and weathering all over the rest of his torso and arms. Just suggestions, my friend... I would really like to see more images featuring this character. :o)

Yeah, fair comment about the scaring etc, I did try to add these but I just couldnt get it right to my satisfaction an I've been working on this pic for over a month from modeling to render stage so it was getting a bit stale. The light was another problem, as we all know Poser lighting can be a bitch, the shield does actually have dents and nicks but are unfortunately lost in the gloom. Constructive comments are always welcome, especially from some one of your standard.

A true warrior takes good care of his equipment, so nicks and dents may well be honed out. The size of the sword may not be historically accurate (as far as I know, the old Brits used swords not unlike the Roman gladius), but it does add drama to this image. His face and hair are marvelous! Excellent work!

Well infact the Ancient Britons swords were unlike the Roman gladius in several respects, the gladius was a short stabbing weapon with a sharp pointed tip, designed to thrust out from behind the large Roman shields wereas the British swords were longer and heavier and designed for hack and slash with a more rounded tip as in my picture but not as big and only a small onehanded grip, often with anthropomorphic hilts.
