Description

The Matronauts are busy doing a geological survey in the Gustov Crater region. They are also testing out a brand-new vehicle for Martian exploration, the Mars Mule. Nothing fancy about this rig. It's the equivalent of a four-person dome tent on six wheels as far as comforts go. The Mule is designed to keep two people alive for a week or four people up to three and a half days. Looks like the Mule's abilities are in for a serious test: A huge dust storm is bearing down upon them. Don't worry about the Matronauts. Even if they are enveloped before they can reach the Mule (and it looks like they will be) the vehicle is equiped with a directional sound transmitter and their suits have receivers to help guide them back to safety. Everything done in Bryce 5 by me, except for a little post work in PaintShopPro 5. Foreground is a terrain made from a photo of the NASA Spirit's immediate landing area. Texture developed by me from a photo by Spirit. Background hills are from a NASA photo by Spirit put on a plane. Enjoy! And thanks for looking! Jeremy

You have my VOTE ... Your terrain is a WOW in capitol letters. This does it - gotta find my Bryce 5 "how to" sheets and start visiting the tutorials. Is her suit pressurized? The boot tops appear to be unsealed. I wonder too if she is carrying a week supply of spare food, or something, in the seat of her britches. That's one woman who can't be accused of being top heavy - even with the back pack. . I do love your Matronaut series.

Very good image but I get the feeling everything is too clean. The Mars Mule is shining like an old chrome car. A bit dirt and dust would be nice. I am sure there is enough dirt on Mars.

Uhum. Dust please. Mud also would be fine, but it's Mars You know. So, only dust :)

Well, Holli, I did say the Mule was new. Retired and Bungalo, dust would be good, but I don't know how to do that yet. Suggestions? I think I'm going to try to add some low streamers of "dust" eventually, but that's probably the best I can do. Also may change the pose of the closest matronaut. Yes, they would be pressurized suits. As to the remark about the large "backpack", they ARE matrons, that is, middle-aged women. But the suits are too busty and too large in the behind. Blame that on Poser 5's P5 woman catsuit. If there is a way to adjust it, let me know. I sure haven't been able to. My philosophy about portraying women is that I prefer realistic looking persons both in body and in face; hence, my matronauts idea. Anyway, All, thanks for the constructive, funny, and helpful comments, and for taking the time to look. Jeremy

I see nothing wrong with her buns. :o) actually, that would be close to reality. As far as dust, don't think I've tried that yet, but using a volumetric setting for dust blowing around may do it. Otherwise, a good workout in Photoshop could do it too. I'm sure there are others with better suggestions than mine, though. Excellent work! Hope to see a new, improved version of this one soon.

I'm all about Ares, this is a cool scene! Your characters are just fine. Not EVERY scene requires a model-type person, it's good to see a normal looking human in a scene. I'm only concerned with the cloudwork in the back. It is full of artifacts, and the material itself contrasts starkly to the realism of the rest of the scen. Try VanLippe's cloud materials, they are in the freestuff section here!

Very cool image, but maybe some blur to the clouds would help make them blend in better. Great job nonetheless.
