Description

Hi everyone! This image was created for fun as part of a series I plan on doing featuring fantasy towers and landmarks. The first of the series can be seen in my gallery here or on my website. It was created in 3ds Max 5 and rendered with both V-Ray and scanline. Compositing was done almost entirely in Digital Fusion with some clean up in Photoshop. Let see...Some additional info. All rock materials are 100% procedural textures. Waterfalls are a standard max particle systems, and so are the mists from them. For those of you who took a peak at my Compositing tutorial, I took a screen cap of the "Flow" from Digital Fusion so you can see how this was composited and what types of layers I used. That as well as some test renders and concept sketches can be found on my website at the link below. Thanks for viewing! :) Project Scrapbook

Very nice work! Has a great cartoonish feel to it. The stairway to right is great and reminds me of Myst III!

Nice 1 Seraph! Excellent design. I was surprised to see how much detail is in the rock on the close-up shot. Even more impressive that they're procedurals. Well Done! I think the colour of the water compliments the colour of the rock brilliantly. The foam at the base of the waterfalls is excellent! One small thing that bothers me is the line along the top of the big waterfalls. It looks a little sharp to me. I haven't looked at any reference pics so I'm not sure exactly how it should look, but it just looks odd to me. Otherwise excellent allround!

Excellent stuff - gets my vote! Your work is always inspiring, and this is no exception. I'd love to know how you created the rock texture procedurally...maybe you could do a short tutorial? Anyway, great concept, great work!

Thanks for the comments everyone. The setup for the rock material is suprizingly simple, and I feel its hardly worth writing a detailed tutorial. However, I will put together a little extra something about it this weekend to show how I did it. I'll put a "mini tut" on my website at the link I gave above. Thanks again for the feedback!! :)

Absolutely fantastic ! Excellent design, very impressive ! Only the edge of the waterfall is too 'sharp', but don't worry, there is always room to grow :-)

One thing I don't like (from technical point of view) is water under the moons. It looks a bit like snow and I don't suppose that water can so flow down. Remembr, all I wrote is only my subjective opinion. The rest is really great - atmosphere and light. Really well done. Have a nice day. I wish you houndreds of brilliant ideas. :) Mirek

Spectacular! The waterfalls are quite convincing. So are the stone textures. The lighting is dead on, although I'm not crazy about the colors your chose for the sky, it's still a damn cool image.
