Description

This fractal reminds me of the violent reaction between liquid elemental bromine and ammonia solution which I witnessed as a boy . I was thrilled in those days to make some pure bromine by displacement with chlorine in an aqueous solution of potassium bromide . The bromine was then obtained by distillation . I put about 1ml of bromine on one side of a plate with a similar quantity of ammonia solution on the other side - I then tipped the plate upwards and allowed the two substances to mix. The resulting chemical reaction was extremely violent and huge clouds of white ammonium bromide erupted into the air above from the sizzling mixture below ! This fractal certainly reminds me of that experience ; although the chemicals involved here appear to be VERY exotic !!

Cool TIA Julia spirals, Michael! I had a chemistry set when I was a kid and made some neat stuff happen, too - back when they let you have the REAL good ones, not like now.

Well, you lost me somewhaere between elemental and bromine but I get the basic idea. Very exotic and it looks like very toxic as well. Billowing clouds, violent chemical reactions, youthful experimentation with chemicals...wow, sounds great and looks great!
