Description
I want to bore you all to dead with my Brazil rendered Balls. But as they took so long to render (well only 45 minutes, so not too long). And I find the result pleasing, I couldn't withhold myself from poasting.
Scene information. THis scene contains no lights!!
Only the Skylight of brazil is used. I'm working on a set of maps to use for the skylight for different times of the day (morning, midday, afternoon, night). I used a Gradient Ramp with a spiral distribution within a sperical environment.
The Gradient ramp uses a sequence of yellow, orange, red, purple, blue to reflect the clear evening sky.

I suggest you don't use a procedural material, GI takes longer to calculate the light when using procedurals, just use bitmaps. or make a gradient in Photoshop and use that!

I still dont understand what it is that brazil does.
EYE
Brazil is a Rendering Plugin, used as an effect. Formerly also know as Ghost, but then it could only do raytracing (Glass, Metals, etc..) It now includes radiosity (the diffuse bouncing of light of a surface, e.g. a wall lights the floor) and Global illumination (Skylight). Very simply put it lights the object from all angles, which aproaches reality a bit more. (Hence the blurry shadow)You can download the beta from: http://www.splutterfish.com/sf/ for free.
