Anne, I have a program called ZBrush. It does everything under the sun, and has a free demo version (which some people have had for over a year, one over 2 years that I know of). It can sculpt, paint, sketch, charcole, can give a canvas type painting, pastel, illustration, well, it can do a lot of different kinds of artwork. With this tree (which I am not happy with because of the bark), I first free hand drew in the trunk and some branches, because all trees see some branches in them. Then I was able to convert my free hand drawing into a 3d object because I had left ZADD on. So I made it 3 dimensional, but it only looked good from the one side. Going from paint to 3d is not easy on a tree. Then I decided to try to apply texture to the tree, something I am still learning. I did a poor job here, as I should have softened the tunk and branches up. As for the leaves, we have what we call alphas. There are a ton of them, and you make your own, to draw, paint, sculpt with. This is the best alpha I have for leaves on a branch. You should see my attempt at a Japanese maple leaf LOL it is good for a childrens book, but not reality. With alphas you can make the leaves any color you want, at any intensity you want, and in any drawing/painting, you can chose any stroke you like. I used Drag Rec in this one. This is the best, and only way I can describe how I made a tree. On another pic, a variation of one I have already posted, but will post it again, you can see a different tree, but I have improved on applying a texture. I also created the coming post's tree from a tree that I modeled myself, which made it even better, it did not start out as a painting. Mandy
