Description

I was IM'd after initally posting this photo last evening. His comments got me to thinking and for that, I am thankful to him. When I first took this picture back in August of 2003, it was because I thought it would make an interesting photo. The blue construction netting draped on the church reminded me of a wedding veil. This church is in, what I would consider, the neighborhood of where the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center stood. Thinking more about the location, I can see a mother mourning the loss of her children on that day over two years ago. I can't imagine what that church saw on that day. I don't know if the church was damaged that day or if my impression that it was being restored before then is correct. If you wish to view it as a memorial to those who were lost, that is your choice and I respect it. I can only hope that this church is still standing centuries from now so that it may bear witness to the horrors of September 11th and to the recovery and rebirth of the neighborhood.
