Cool gizmo your getting there :)

This one is better than your first try. It is still far away from looking like a real gun, but silhouette and raw parts resembling one. Keep an eye on the proportions, especially on the grip and try to use photo referances. You should try out box modelling and spline modelling for handguns.

A few points - Watch that trigger - it is a bit thin. Also, you have some issues with your smoothing, where those dark edges are above the trigger guard. You could try a few things, from smooth shifting out the sides where the smoothing problems are, in order to add a little sliver of detail on that edge, or you could just cop out and set your smoothing angle lower for that surface - depends on whether you want that corner along the bottom to be smooth- or sharp-edged. I would also adjust the glossiness down a bit, and the specular up a bit. Also, the ambient intensity has to change - you should use either radiosity or more than one light, but not that much ambient light. Also, remember to make sights, and after you adjust the grip like VOID said, take a look at how you have modelled the slide. On a semi-automatic, the slide, which is the part up top around the barrel, has to be able to move. Keep it up and you should have a very good model of a handgun.
