You know well.Maneki-neko is the ornament of comics in which the cat has gold. http://www.mapion.co.jp/topics/odekake/0205_1/img/photo/osusume_maneki.gif People like such a pleasant thing. It seems that then, it was made the mascot of a store. The myth about this hears and does not become precocious. However, probably, there are few storekeepers who believe profit now now.LOL
