Description

I spotted these (zygopetalum) starting to bloom 3 days ago. Most of the other orchids have flower stalks, but no blooms yet. We keep 'em outside. Winter was short this year (just January, San Francisco peninsula) and it's been dry and not as cold as usual (upper 50s, low 60s).

One other thing about these zygopetalums. Not only do they grow outside o.k., but on warm days they have a perfume that you can smell from about 10 feet away. No kidding - it's really strong, like honey-cinnamon tea or whatever.
