Description

Another WIP image of the cityscape I am struggling to complete. So far I have 75 objects, totalling 557,639 polygons, with 2,510 distinct surfaces. Still testing the massing and blocking of this scene. The lighting is far from done, but I like where the shadow of the bridge is falling so I think that's where I will keep my main light. Textures are far from done, specially along the banks of the river. I may go back in and model some kind of sewage filtration system to help break up the monotony here. Not sure what kind of a sky would be appropriate, but I do want to keep a high level of atmospheric haze to be consistent with my vision for this city. Then there's the pollution... lots more to do here. Thank you very much for taking the time to view.

Great stuff !!! you're right about the monotony of the river bank... maybe making it less straight would help :)

How about a sewage/garbage pipeline snaking off to a refinery in the horizon

Impressive work Moe! As for the sky - I guess that depends on the mood you want to convey. Bright sunny blue might seem kind of twee (although it'd certainly allow better view of the building detail and give you some scope with the water) but overcast gray might be too depressing. Dramatic sunsets are too easy and cliche, perhaps a night time setting? Of course then the global illumination would be a problem... Don't make much difference either way - the set is amazing by itself. :)

It's looking great Moe! You do need to break up the bank more though. I think a bit of irregularity there or the piping you spoke of would do quite nicely. I'm seeing a sepia tinged sky in this too.

I think the river looks fine, it just needs a few objects to break up the repetition i.e. wharves, ships etc. Very nice work so far.

Pheeeewwww...that is some pretty detaile and meticulous modeling you have going there. Great work! Love how you've included details such as the HVAC on the buildings and suspension cables on the bridge!

sweet moses. i would have thought it were a few million polygons, so kudos on the polycount. 2500 surfaces.. wow. that would probably drive me insane. well, it's looking really impressive. can't wait to see the finished piece.

Looking good, Moe. How about some docks and jetties reaching out into the water? Cranes for unloading ships? I agree the shore needs to be broken up a bit. Also, river access is a valuable commodity and I can't see dystopians protecting it as environment rather than exploiting it to hell.

Looking good Moe, I agree with you on the lights, the position is just right for the bridge shadow, the shadows from the buildings too a really good adding even more to the busey dense atmosphere. I like the idea of the sewage works, maybe some dockish area or moorings etc. Looking forward to the next WIP.

Have Mercy!! thats quite a project. For my big mouth IMHO - I agree with the ones who think a river would be exploited and heavily used. Civilization has a way of wanting to control their rivers; channelization is one common way. Whats a river wirhout a marina - and the rich folks to build artificial islands for their billion dollar buildings, isolation in the middle of chaos. Your bridge is fixed so you must not be planning heavy shipping above that point. I suspect modern city planners wish that warves and garbage flows were planned for well downriver from city center ... floating turds tends to put a damper on recreational water use; Like fishing & boating. Most cities put lots of effort into river side access for recreation, walking - jogging, cycling, rape ... The latter reuires lighting and safe havens. Whatever you do no doubt at all that it will be terrific. BTW; Will that be a freebie?

Yeah, yeah, Moebius. A very big and polluted city, eh? Don't stop until complete the scene. Very good.

The waterline could use some foliage and trees. Perhaps palms if it is a southern setting. Add some boats and ships, a sky and its an excellent piece of work. :)

You are definitely the man, couldn't model like this ever I don't think. As for the sky, I think a autumn color, like yellow to brown would be best, maybe with the sun on the horizon to the left. Just a thought...
