In the last century, before the Heroes of Crystallis, even before her ragged band of adventurers became known as The Liberators, Aeriel Atreides traveled to Hesterland, the continent on the other side of the world, searching for the last of the Fontana Crystals. The power of the crystals was discovered in ancient elven texts by their Sage, Rider Greywalker, the architect of Crystallis.
But before they could collect the Crystals, they had to take them from what might have been considered their rightful owner. In short, they had to steal them. And not just from anyone. They had to steal them from the Queen of Sonntaglia, last of the line of Hartegen Sonntag, founder and first king of all of Hesterland. It had been he who forged the kingdoms under his banner. It was Queen Crystal Sonntag that defied tradition and the propriety of the Church of the Land after fifteen generations and created the greatest Navy on the globe. Her love of the sea and travel set her squarely against the normally xenophobic peoples of Hesterland. It would be her zeal and her adventurous nature that would save everyone when the War of Arrallon came and Hesterland, the magic deprived continent of the globe, became the battleground between the magics of Arrallon and the technology of the Republic invaders.
But in those wild times, before the all the people of Arrallon were forced to see through the same bloody and bruised eyes, Crystal Sonntag stood as an enigma. It was perhaps her defiance of the moral codes of the stiff and pompous Church of the Land that allowed her to accept an Erotic from the West into her household, to marry her younger brother off to that same wonton adventuress. Perhaps there's a message to be read there, that the trouble makers, the law breakers, those that stand in turgid defiance of conformity are the ones most likely to save the world.
