Description
On April 13, 1926, during a nor'easter storm, the lighthouse at Cape Henlopen, Delaware collapsed into the sea... the victim of time and the relentless erosion of the sea's tides.
The lighthouse had guided vessels from the Atlantic Ocean into the Delaware Bay for more than 150 years. Two years earlier, the lens had been removed and placed on display, the lighthouse having been rendered obsolete by the nearby Delaware Breakwater light and fog signal.
Seen here, the last lighthouse keeper bids his former charge a heartfelt farewell as the storm approaches.
