Description
This was a test to create a passable Borg cube (I can't claim the starship. It came from Wolf359 if I remember correctly). To create the cube, I added a default cube at 100 x 100 x 100 (sections to 1,1,1) and turned filter all the way up. I then added the Dethstar texture and set bevel filter to zero. I changed the size to 8,7,7 and lessened the bevel size.
I copied this cube and pasted it. I scaled it down to 99 x 99 x 99 and changed the dethstar texture size to 7,6,6. I repeated this process three more times, each time making the cube 1 unit smaller than the previous cube and making the texture smaller by one each time.
On the smallest cube, I turned the object filter properties back to 0,0,0 so that it wasn't possible to see through the object.
The final step was to add a number of axis lights just under the top surface of the cube. These lights are set to bright green, shadowcasting lights with y-falloff control. I created the axis once and then simply copied and pasted until I had enough glowing areas.

So how'd you do the explosion....LOL...really fine use of textures man...haven't used that texture in some time now and you tend to forget how versatile they are.

Great Borg Cube - I'd like to see it redone with more realistic texturing on the spaceship. The "showroom new" look rather detracts from the impact of the rest of this fine work. Also, I'd do some motion blur on the laser beam to remove the beaded effect (paint program post.) I'm impressed with your technique.

This came out excellently.
