Description

Someone was recently doing the robots for the movie Silent Running and reminded me I had set aside to create the Valley Forge..the ship from the movie. I think it was one of the first Post-2001 ships, and didn't look like a V2..;) I actually saw it in a movie theatre..;)
There were 3 ships in all, I don't remember the actual names, but I was surprised to see how many good reference pic sites there were. The scaling may be a little off.. and I left a little of the detailing aside, but this puppy was heading for the north side of 1 meg, and Wings gets cranky at that level..;)
Ship in Wings 3d, planet, 'rings' (have a mat called Saturn Rings, but it's not quite..;) stars and general cosmos in Bryce..enjoy.

One of my favorite movies. The other two ships were the Berkshire and Seqoia. They had American Airlines logo. The Valley Forge was shot on the air craft carrier Tycondaroga

As another "silent running" fan I am pleased to see there are others. :-) You did a terrific job - as I would expect, There was another of the design in the recent SCI fi channel remake of the Battlestar Glactia movie also.

Those lattice and truss arrangements call memory in great amounts (I think because the point repetition is ambiguous along a vector) An old trick from IBM GSP is to make it one continuous gesture by bending acutely a pipe so it knows serial uv. You are well on your way to questioning the railroad!!

The movie was filmed on the carrier USS Valley Forge before it was scrapped in '72. That's where the name for the movie ship came from. NOTE: The ships didn't have engines.

Seems we have a lot of sci fi film favorites in common, I considered having a crack at one of these myself some time. I even have the theme as a MP3 on my pc!

Very nice work on the model. I think we both know just how hard a triangle can get with models like these.
