Description
I have recently been reading Barbara Tuchman's book "Stillwell-The American Experience in China 1919-1945", which has a small section on the 3rd Combat Cargo Command, who, in WW 2, flew vital supplies and personnel into China over the Himalayas by way of a route they called "The Hump". No big deal these days,........but they were flying C-46 and C-47's(depicted here)whose top altitude was just about the same as some of the mountains they were crossing. Some of the pilots used to say they weren't sure wether the sounds they heard during flight was air turbulence or the rear wheel dragging the peaks of the mountains. In my mind, unsung heros, all of them.
