my photoshop 7 is a piece of crap on win xp (pro) as well and keeps freezing on me (everything else works ok) - but you need to set your prefs like supafly said. Set history steps to something like '5' from the default 20 and set the scratch disk to C:/ and adjust the memory used to as much as you can. THEN!!!! - in winXP, run the "program compatibility wizard" and have XP emmulate win2000 for this program! This 'should' get rid of a lot of problems...and btw, this picture and topic belongs in the adobe photoshop forum, not the gallery....Photoshop 7 has had a bundle of problems with XP (see the adobe.com forums! - sheesh!) and that's why people are saying that photoshop CS is so much better - basically they fixed the 7.0 bugs and added a few extra bells and whistles to win everyone over to them again.

If you have only one HD and not that much free space left... i suggest buying a new HD. Cuz if you're gonna use graphic programs like PS you can bet your ass it's gonna require a shitload of temporary diskspace... And about all that Sean says: I stuck to PS 6... cuz i just can't get used to the brush options in 7
