Wonderful close-up shot! He looks kind of caught in the act with something. What did he do? :)

Thats funny, never thought of that. Morays have to open and close there mouths to breath, I guess he was bummed out that I was not food !!! They are mostly night time feeders, and hide in the coral during the day, but always poke there head to check you out.

after watching a National Geographic special on this eel, I have to give it to you, excellent shot, exceeltn closeup, one of the deadliest most equipped killers in the world

I want to add that these animals are not aggressive, they must open and close there mouth to pump water thru there gills, its how they breath. Underwater animals are just like land creatures, if you leave them alone, they leave you alone. They do have poor eye site, and when they bite, they clamp on and pull back, and with sharp teeth pointing inwards, you could lose a finger. Many people think animals like eels and barracudas are aggressive and dangerous, it's simply not true, however they are predators and well equiped for that roll, but you would have to really piss them off to be "attacked".

Nice to hear they are scarier looking than they really are.... I do find them to be rather scary to look at. Such a fabulous shot!
