Description

Where's the Blue Stuff? I hear you say. Relax! As promised earlier to a certain Englishman here is Deep Stuff 01 an interwoven mini-series. Deep Stuff: You can drown in just 5 inches of water. (I've seen people drown in something less deep - 3 inches of alcohol). I found these denizens of the deep in only 2.5 inches of water helped by Siobhan my able assistant and her cochineal eyedropper. Squids: "All are predators, and the great majority are powerful swimmers. A few live in coastal watyers, but are more typical of open waters, at the surface or down to great depths. The largest squid recorded are 60ft (20m long), the smallest less than an inch (2.5cm) Many deep water squids are jewelled with light-producing photophores (pits containing luminous bacteria), often of several beautiful colours. " ('Encyclopaedia of Animals in Colour' - Burton & Zuckerman - Octopus Books) Interesting note. Scientific experiments undertaken upon people in sensory deprivation tanks in America in the 50's had to be aborted at the 7 hours mark because the floaters all recorded experiencing horrifying visions of giant squids. PS. Have Fun... Be kind to my squid he thinks he's kinda big.

he's a beauty, and I'm so glad to see some deep stuff in a-mid the blue...and in the deep blue the squid comes to light...he's a beauty. Reminds me of a time in Wales when a rather lost octopus attached itself to my dad's arm...he was 'shocked' to find it rather strong...lol This one's certainly caught me!! (sorry...just trying to recover...seldom am I so very funny). A beautiful shot
