Description

This image is a Terragen render of a slot canyon, which is something I have been trying to accomplish for awhile now. Needless to say, this attempt has been far more successful than the others. Multiple layers rendered in Terragen and combined in Paint Shop Pro. If you are interested in a tutorial, let me know. This image is made by referring to recent photographs I made of Antelope Canyon. Antelope Canyon is what is known as a "slot canyon". It is a very narrow canyon that is actually narrower at the top, and rather cavelike, and it is carved out of sandstone by the rushing waters of flash floods during the rainy seasons. Parts of northern Arizona and southern Utah are riddled with these canyons, of which Antelope Canyon is among the most famous. These canyons display breathtaking colors as the sun plays on the various faces of rock. Do not get caught in one when it is raining or shortly afterward; you could be killed by a flood of rushing water in what seemed to be a perfectly dry canyon! I have uploaded two images of Antelope Canyon this evening to the Photography gallery. You can take a look at them for comparison. Look here and here. Comments in other languages welcome.

You took on a lot when you chose this subject. As the photos show, its a very difficult task to get this right. Your final result is really, really good, though, the composition, balance and colour all are great. It could have been done by Georgia O'Keefe if it was in oil.
