Description

Sometimes in Shadow Chapter 12 [The beginning of the fantasy section] The Judge opened his eyes, letting in the blazing rush of sunlight. It hurt. He squeezed them closed, pushing out the pain. There was a flat, anonymous ache, which took awhile to find. He probed with his fingers and found a large, bleeding gash in the back of his head. He sat up, turning away from the sun. Slowly, he opened his eyes again. On the ground was a jagged rock, red-brown from the drying blood on it. The landscape startled Judge Forbs. He was sprawled near the top of a hill. There was nothing anywhere, no houses, no roads, no people, and no trees
