A work in progress. Any suggestions on getting a more realistic tear would be greatly appreciated.

Very good texture work, a great idea. You can get a more realistic tear preferably by scanning one ;-) Or you use the polygonal selection tool in PS to mark the outline and then work around it. Do you use Painter? There are some fascinating brushes there.
