This is an excellent first try! It is really difficult getting a beach right. The trick is to make yourself a flattish area along the shore on which to put your beach. Try Dotthy's tutorial again and flatten your pic more as she instructs, this will give you the "beach" terrain on which to work. I have done the same tutorial and after many attempts had success. After you master the making of the beach area, you can work on the colouring of the different sands eg, wet, damp and dry. It takes many patients hours figuring this out!!!!! I usually make my sand an outrageous colour so I can see where it is then I change it to the sand colour when I'm satisfied its in the right place. Take your time! Well done. Keep trying.

Your water color and transparency are very nice, and I like the surf a little; it's too regular. You should break it up.
