"Life in the Temple changed after Suzette's murder: the spirit of reckless freedom which made our lives so special was now gone. Many of us came to Sarodor to escape the harsh realities of the real world. We felt safe here - free from pain, free from violence and sickness and ageing - but seeing Suzette's mutilated body made us realise the real world isn't so far away after all. "I knew instantly that I would never enjoy living in the Temple again. I had already seen my fair share of death in the real world - I could no longer live under a roof where life could be taken willfully by the hand of another human being. Plus I felt guilty: I was Sinistra's second-in-command after all, and I couldn't help but think of all the young girls I had helped bring into this world, lured by false hopes of freedom and security and love. "As the sun rose over Sarodor on the morning after Suzette's death, I stepped out into the wasteland, my meagre belongings and a few days' worth of food in my backpack, the eastern horizon in my sights. Turning my back on the Temple was the hardest thing I've ever had to do. Sinistra's alure is strong, and the Temple had been my home and shelter for over twenty years. But my mind was made up.
