Description

This was entered in a resent French Olympics Compitition. It got a second place for Computer Art for various reasons. One of them being that it was loosly French related. Another was that I "did not use my media in an original way", although I'm sure none of the judges knew what Bryce or 3DsMax are. A judge commented by mentioning one problem in the scene, which he thought was the major one of all: "if the sun were that low in the sky their would be NO light on this side of the hill" I had only one thing to say to Mr.Judge. Why did he mention nothing about the window on the boat that is opaque, or why the water splashing against the rocks was in different direction from the wave current, why in such a residential place "their would be NO" roads, why the houses were located in unreachable areas, and why a fishing boat was on average five times larger than each house? Art is in part (largly in part) a form of expression. It aims for most, to portray a sort of feeling that many times cannot be simply formed with any realistic setting. Sometimes, and most times, an artist has to bend reality until it manifests the neccessary emotions. Please enjoy art for what it is. Thank you.

Very good picture nicely compossed. The rocks, splashs and reflection is very nicely done. Also the buildings are well placed. To be honest, i dont think the sun adds much...wrongly placed or not. Maybe if you adding a reflection of the sun into the water. (done in post, KPT sun copyed down on a new layer, faded and then add a ripple to it would work). Reflections of suns always look cool. Another minor problem is one of the house's is floating a bit at the right side. Only a minor point, move it down a tiny bit would do. Apart from that the only improvements possible would be more follage, trees ect. But then, thats not a critism because almost all pictures can get better if you just keeping adding more of that stuff :)

hum~ i like your idea. i'm also sure had u had a bit more time of it, it could have been one of the best renders you've ever done. I see thiswhen i look at what you did first- the water, the landscape. Its lovely. True- the sun DOESN'T add alot, but heck, keep it, we all kno that Nice, France really DOES have mulible suns (despite what that french fool judge says), and the boat... dont get what the heck you were thinking when u made it, but heck its kool.
