Description

On our walk we have now reached the Mosque. Here in this silent place, the cloister, we can take a rest before looking around. The cloister was created like those from christian monasteries but also refered to the so called Medrisi, the Koran schools behind Oriental mosques. This Oriental building had been created between 1779 and 1792. First of all it had been just a scenery for the nobles' delight but also a symbol for enlightenment and tolerance. The mosque had never been used for religious ceremonies also it had never been consecrated. If you ask yourself why they had built a mosque here in Germany those day... oriental culture, philosophy and art had become very modern in the upper class due to a dream of oriental luxury since the oriental fairytales from 1001 Night had been translated for the Europeans in the early 18th century. Ok... enough history lesson for now me thinks ;o) There will be more shots from the mosque within the next days. Thanks for your time and interest. Thanks also for viewing and commenting on my previous shot Mosque Hugs Monika

Interesting historical site. The crown on the top of the mosque and the star at its door may have held some significance to its designers. A very unique looking building I must say. Well captured by you.

Wow! The mystery is revealed! Excellent shooting! Love this image, so bright and colorful, and ummmm dunno how to tell you this, but your history lessons rock! Can't say that about the history teacher I had in High School, he was boring with a boring monotone voice! :-S

Those colours are marvellous - and so very "non German" in architecture. But then the whole building is like that :-)
