Description
Sometimes the image is in my mind and all I do is let it out. This is one of those cases - it's still an early test for a series of much higher detailed images illustrating HP Lovecraft's "At the Mountains of Madness".... but it has the basic flavor of what I'm trying to do with some of the work. As a test it works for me. It needs elements for scale and additional details to better match the story - but close enough for right now.

As far as being "true to Lovecraft" I think this comes pretty darn close. Maybe a bit darker or sinister looking sky but, your sense of depth and scale is definately achieved. The chaotic (almost fragementing) landscape is really neat work. (Rob)

A marvelous, very alive and real-feeling Place!

I love it!!!! I'd also like to see the same image rendered from closer to "ground" level. I think that would enhance the feeling of those herculean megaliths. What's next, Dreams in the Witch House? :)

I don't understand how you make those fragmented landscapes... Lattices perhaps but what do you do to them? An incredible picture.

I love the depth and scale, the silence, the feel of something pending...Great stuff

Great! Love the huge ancient feel to this. Very "Mountains of Madness". I take this is a render of before it froze up. Agree with DD about the sky. But then again, wasn't it kind of clear on that fated expedition to the cold south? Again, great job on getting some of the feeling of that wonderful story. As far as test render... I need to rejudge what I consider a test, this is awesome. Minor suggestion, even though the book described large cuts of rock weighing more than should be possible, a few seams along the larger stretches. And if you keep the sky, darken the light coming in from the right. Not putting this down at all, it's inspiring. Just been reading HPL most of my life, seen this place often in my head. Tom

Could I suggest lowering your viewing angle to make it look higher and more imposing. This might increase the sense of scale.....Excellent draft - lets see more!!
