Description
This was a project that I had on the back burner for while now. I had made an initial test version of the model back in April of last year. I was still learning the mechanics of box modelling
at the time and I wasn't really happy with the results. You can see the image and read about what
I was trying to do at this link : Queen - Version 1
Then I recently saw the previews for Zbrush 2 and was totally amazed by the artwork that the artists at Pixologic had created and decided to get the program. I figured that this program
would ideal for sculpting organic forms and I decided the best way to learn it was to just
start using it on my unfinished project.
I took inspiration from the alien-organic works of Giger and Cleavenger and came up with my own
version of a weird alien-human hybrid. The concept behind it was that an alien-insectiod like race had captured a humanoid female and fused her head with alien technology in order to exploit the unlimited potential of the human mind. This hybrid Queen, under the guidance of the alien council, controls and runs the entire colony from a central chamber deep within the hive...
Anyways, learning Zbrush was a bit frustrating at first, but once I started focusing just on the 3D sculpting tools, it became easier to work with. The program can manipulate a large number of polygons very quickly and this allowed me to try out many variations and put alot of details on to
the models in a very short time. Only the organic stuff was exported for detailing in Zbrush and the basic procedure was :
Box modelled base mesh in Max -> Imported into Zbrush and sculpted -> Imported back into
Max for material assignment and rendering.
Overall this was quite a fun project to work on and a nice change from all the car modelling I was
doing over the last little while :)

TRULY GOD DAMN AMAZING WORK sorry for screaming ;D I'm also trying out zbrush 2 for the organic modelling part, as of now im in the middle of modelling a complex spaceship but if you want to i'd be very happy for any tips and/or tutorial links for a good start on learning the basic zbrush 2 tools, i still feel a bit confused by some of them, perhaps we can do some kind of animation or something together? thanks!!

I cannot believer my eyes...this in its totality is just beautiful. Looks like there should be some movie made about it. Your ability to use these programs to this outcome says a lot for you eye for beauty.

What an amazing piece of work. At first I thought it was a sculpture in the "real world." That is it 3D modeling is just fantastic all the way around. Great work.
