Description

Even a stopped clock gives the right time twice a day................ The kaleidoscope is an optical toy which produces symmetrical patterns by multiple reflections in inclined mirrors. The principle was discovered (or re-discovered) in 1814-1`815 by Scotsman Sir David Brewster, and patented by him in 1817. "Like some early nineteenth century Rubik's cube, Dr Brewster's kaleidoscope became an overnight bestseller, with an estimated two hundred thousand instruments sold in London and Paris during 3 months" (Morrison-Low 1864, 60-61). Unfortunately for Brewster, his Patent was not well managed, and he did not profit from it to the extent he expected. scopes

I really like the second example, and the compass rose is inspired. Well done!

They are all gorgeous but the first one is my favourite, I think because they are my favourite colours but the last one catches my eye and keeps hold of it too. Excellent work!

Fantastic work, I love them all but especially the last one. I love it when an artist gives some background for their image(s) so we can get an idea of what they were thinking. Great bit of history and some excellent images!

I love them all...but the first and last remind me most of the patterns made by the kaleidoscope I had as a child. ;o)

Yeah i have to agree with valcali ..first and last are most Kaleidoscope-y ...and i like those 2 the best EXCEPT for the one with the compass settings on it... that one is excellent. And the compass readings are a clever and original element ... Nice work MrP...
